Cardinals Lose at Home, 7-2, to Philadelphia
|
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2, at Busch Stadium. Leading the charge for Philadelphia was right fielder Chuck Klein. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Aaron Nola, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 4-4. Getting the save was Schoolboy Rowe, his 1st.
It could have been a different outcome for Philadelphia, had it not been for Carlos Ruiz, the 33-year old catcher . Ruiz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Philadelphia up, 3-2.
"Even warm beer tastes good after a win," said Ruiz.
The Phillies have an impressive 41-20 record.
