In a low-scoring contest between the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Terris McDuffie was the X factor. The New York right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. The Mets raised their record to 36-31.

The Mets got a clutch hit from center fielder Tommie Agee. In the bottom of the ninth, he hit a run-scoring single to left, to win the game for the Mets.

"This place sure got loud," said , the New York manager.
