Right-hander Mort Cooper mesmerized the San Diego Padres while leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-0 victory. St. Louis, now 34-30, holds down first place in the National League Central Division.

Jim Bottomley had a big run-scoring double for the Cardinals in the top of the fourth inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Andy Benes and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 2-0.

"We're rolling right now," said Bottomley. "We're playing good baseball."
