Phillies Win, 7-5, Versus Chicago
|
The Philadelphia Phillies needed 13 innings to beat the Chicago Cubs, 7-5, at Wrigley Field. The win was due in part to center fielder Billy Hamilton, who was 3-5 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2. Steve Bedrosian closed out the game, earning his 1st save. With the win, the Phillies have a record of 39-20.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Mike Schmidt to snag the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Phillies ahead, 7-5. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
Schmidt told a Philadelphia Chronicle reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win.
