New York Edges Royals, 11-10, Jeter Clutch
Good production from second baseman Derek Jeter helped the New York Yankees topple the Kansas City Royals, 11-10. Jeter slugged 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Yankees. The win went to Rich Gossage in relief, making him now 1-0. Steve Mingori took the loss for Kansas City. The Yankees raised their record to 12-7.

Had Joe DiMaggio not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, DiMaggio hit a 2-run single. That made the score 11-10, in favor of the Yankees.

"Every time I go up there, I try and hit a ball hard," said Jeter.
