Round 1 Game 1 Goes to New York, Thanks to DiMaggio
|
The New York Yankees started the Round 1 in style, downing the visiting Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium by a score of 7-5 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Yankees left fielder Joe DiMaggio went 1-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3.
DiMaggio contributed in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped New York get the win.
"The competition leap this year was tough to adjust to and I feel like there has been another jump in the playoffs," said DiMaggio, a rookie this season. "You're only playing the best now and everyone has time to rest and prepare for you."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Yankee Stadium in New York.
