Pirates Fall to Giants, 2-1
|
AT&T Park hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
San Francisco Giants starter Joe McGinnity hurled his team past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1. McGinnity yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 5-2.
Freddie Lindstrom, who is tied for 8th in the NL in triples with 3, aided the San Francisco cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the third baseman went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"Tough loss," said Pittsburgh manager . "The kind that burns a little inside."
The Giants saw their win-loss record go to 33-24. At the same time, the Pirates fell to 26-31.
