Floundering Padres Lose 7th Straight
The Miami Marlins faced a tough opponent in San Diego pitcher Randy Jones, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Marlins Ballpark by a final score of 5-4. Jones went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Miami reliever Juan Carlos Oviedo picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Heath Bell was saddled with the loss. Miami occupies 4th place in the National League Eastern Division at 26-29.

The defining moment came in the bottom of the ninth for Miami. That's when Moises Alou hit a 2-run double off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Heath Bell to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
