Braves Use Late Surge to Win
|
In a tight tilt between the Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres, Greg Maddux was the difference-maker. The Atlanta right-hander excelled in his team's 3-1 win in 10 innings. Gene Garber nailed down his 2nd save. Atlanta sits in last place in the National League Eastern Division at 22-32.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Hugh Duffy to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Braves on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Maddux told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
