Pirates Defeat Nationals, 2-1
|
Runs were at a premium in the Pittsburgh-Washington matchup.
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Howie Camnitz turned in a sparkling performance against the Washington Nationals, leading his team to a 2-1 win. Joel Hanrahan nailed down his 14th save.
The Pirates got a big hit from catcher Jason Kendall. In the bottom of the sixth, Kendall smacked a 2-run double off Washington pitcher Steve Rogers. It was his 8th double of the season. Suddenly, the Pirates were ahead, 2-1.
"Tough win," said Kendall. "We had to earn it."
The third-place Pirates sport a record of 23-29.
