Max Lanier had a strong outing for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Busch Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. Picking up the save was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Bruce Sutter. The Cardinals bumped their record to 29-27 with this latest triumph.

Ken Boyer hit a run-scoring triple off Brandon Webb in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Cardinals in front, 3-2. Boyer had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 3.
