The Miami Marlins got a sterling performance from pitcher Jose Fernandez, but the New York Mets still prevailed, 3-2. Fernandez threw 5.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Tom Seaver stitched up the save, his 12th. The Mets go to 31-24, putting them second in the National League Eastern Division.

The Mets got a big hit from center fielder Lenny Dykstra. In the bottom of the sixth, Dykstra smacked a 2-run home run off Miami pitcher Al Leiter. It was his 3rd home run of the season. Suddenly, the Mets were ahead, 3-2.

"We busted our tails," said Miami manager . "But we came up short."
