Grantham Earns Praise as Pirates Topple Rockies, 8-6
Pittsburgh defeated Colorado, 8-6, in large part due to 29-year old second baseman George Grantham. Grantham drove in 3 runs. The second baseman had 2 doubles and 1 home run for the Pirates. Babe Adams picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-3. He struck out 3 in 5 innings. Joel Hanrahan got credit for the save for Pittsburgh. It was his 13th of the year.

With Pittsburgh leading 6-5 in the top of the seventh, Grantham hit a fastball from Pedro Astacio for a 2-run double. It was his 4th double of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 8-5.

Pirates manager wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."

The Pirates raised their record to 22-29.
