Mets Win Nail-Biter in 11
|
New York overcame a heroic effort from Warren Spahn to down Atlanta, 4-3, in 11 innings. The Atlanta pitcher threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. With the victory, the Mets record stands at 30-23.
New York used the timely hitting of Todd Hundley to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Mets on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We had a chance to win," said Atlanta manager , "but we didn't get it done."
