Giants Keep Chugging, Win, 8-3
|
The San Francisco Giants dumped the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-3, in large part due to right fielder Mel Ott. On the day, Ott went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Giants. San Francisco, now 29-22, holds down third place in the National League Western Division.
San Francisco second baseman Robby Thompson contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 35th hit of the season and put the Giants ahead, 4-2.
"When you put in the effort and you get really focused, the results come in ways you're not even expecting," said Giants manager .
