Giants Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win
|
Extra frames were needed to settle this game between the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals.
The San Francisco Giants overcame a good performance by St. Louis left fielder Joe Medwick to knock off St. Louis, 5-4, in 15 innings at AT&T Park. Medwick was 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. San Francisco, now 28-22, holds down third place in the National League Western Division.
The decisive blow was delivered by Bill Terry in the bottom of the 15th when he hit a run-scoring double off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Jason Motte to win the game for San Francisco. The home crowd went nuts.
"Winning is great," Terry said. "It's always just guys picking each other up -- if not me, then the next guy."
