Phillies Deal Padres 2-0 Defeat
|
Philadelphia starter Ron Reed put a stranglehold on the San Diego offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Phillies to a 2-0 win. Mitch Williams got the save, the 9th for him this season. The Phillies move to 29-18 with the win, while the Padres drop to 28-19.
Ryan Howard, who is tied for 9th in the NL in home runs with 9, had a direct impact on the outcome. Howard contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put Philadelphia up, 1-0.
"That's baseball. You just have to find a way to get the job done," said Philadelphia manager .
