Marlins Foil Giants, 5-3
|
The inspired effort of San Francisco designated hitter Monte Irvin was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-3, to the Miami Marlins. Irvin went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Robb Nen finished to wrap up his 10th save. With the win, Miami upped its record to 21-21.
Giancarlo Stanton's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth was significant, coming with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the game tied, 3-3. The Miami right fielder hit a 2-run single off Tim Lincecum to put the Marlins up.
Stanton called the win "good for the psyche of this team."
