The Arizona Diamondbacks picked up a win at Chase Field, knocking off the Atlanta Braves, 2-0. Starting pitcher Red Ryan played a key role in the triumph. In 7 innings, Ryan surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Curt Schilling stitched up the save, his 8th.
In the bottom of the third, 25-year old center fielder Ketel Marte hit a run-scoring double. The 20th double of the season for the Arizona center fielder put the Diamondbacks on top, 1-0.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Ryan. "Successful pitchers do it."
Arizona, now 19-25, holds down 4th place in the National League Western Division.
