Cardinals Pin 3-2 Loss on Pittsburgh
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Mort Cooper turned in a top-notch performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium. The result was a win for the Cardinals, 3-2. Cooper got the win, improving to 4-1. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 6.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. Bruce Sutter saved it for St. Louis.
With two out in the bottom of the fourth, Albert Pujols put St. Louis in front, 3-1, with a 2-run single. The Cardinals went on to win the ballgame.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Pittsburgh manager . "We just didn't cash in."
The Cardinals now have a mark of 22-20.
