In a low-scoring game between San Diego and New York, pitcher Andy Benes was excellent. The San Diego right-hander helped his team knock off the Mets, 3-0. The Padres, at 26-18, lead by one game in their division.

Fernando Tatis Jr., who is on pace for 151 RBI this season, had a direct impact on the outcome. Tatis Jr. contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put San Diego up, 1-0.
