The Atlanta Braves dumped the San Francisco Giants, 7-5, in large part due to left fielder Rico Carty. On the day, Carty went 3 for 4 with a triple and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Braves. The Braves raised their record to 15-27.

Atlanta went in front, 3-2, on Chipper Jones's 6th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Jones hit in the bottom of the eighth, left San Francisco pitcher Carl Hubbell visibly perturbed.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Jones, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
