San Francisco overcame a superior effort from Pete Alexander to beat Philadelphia, 8-2, in 12 innings. The Philadelphia pitcher threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Reliever Rod Beck picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Ryan Madson took the loss. With the win, the Giants hiked their record to 19-16.

Willie Mays came through with a big-time hit for San Francisco. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
