Pirates Deny Brewers, 3-2
|
Mike Caldwell, despite pitching well, was dismayed with the outcome: a hard-fought, 3-2 Milwaukee Brewers defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Deacon Phillippe recorded the save, his 4th. The loss drops the Milwaukee record to a disappointing 11-17.
The Pirates got a big at-bat from left fielder Dave Parker. For the game, Parker was 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 3-1 lead.
Parker called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
