Cleveland and Tampa Bay played a hard-fought contest.
Cleveland Indians starter Cliff P Lee turned in a sterling performance against the Tampa Bay Rays, leading his team to a slim, 3-2 win. Lee, now 2-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Addie Joss picked up the save, his 4th.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Travis Hafner was at the plate when Cleveland scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Indians to go in front, 3-2.
"For the most part, I felt like I did a pretty good job with executing the pitches I was throwing," said Lee.
The loss puts Tampa Bay at 7-9.
