The San Francisco Giants picked up a win at AT&T Park, knocking off the Arizona Diamondbacks, 1-0, in 11 innings. On the mound for San Francisco was right-hander Johnny Wright. He played a pivotal role in the triumph. San Francisco reliever Gary Lavelle was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Curt Schilling took the loss. Arizona is now 12-15.
The Giants got a clutch hit from right fielder Mel Ott. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Giants.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Giants manager . "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
