Victory Over Reds Takes Los Angeles to 11-7
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 5-3, at Dodger Stadium. Steve Garvey was a standout performer for Los Angeles. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Sandy Koufax, the winner, improved to 3-1. He held the Reds to 3 runs on 3 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 3. The save was Eric Gagne's, his 4th.
Shortstop Pee Wee Reese made an impact for Los Angeles, when he swatted a run-scoring double off Danny Jackson in the bottom of the fifth. For the contest, Reese went 2 for 4 with a double.
Los Angeles manager praised his team's "businesslike approach."
The Reds fall to 7-11.
