The Pittsburgh Pirates could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jesse Tannehill into a win. Instead, the Colorado Rockies prevailed, 6-3. Tannehill threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. Colorado reliever Brian Fuentes picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Joel Hanrahan was tagged with the loss. Kevin Ritz picked up the save, his 1st.

Colorado used the timely hitting of Dante Bichette to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rockies on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager .

Pittsburgh now has a record of 4-3.
