Wet weather did not postpone the San Francisco-St. Louis ballgame.

The San Francisco Giants banked on Carl Hubbell and he turned in a masterful performance. The left-hander kept the St. Louis hitters in check. The final score was 3-1, Giants. Hubbell went the distance for San Francisco. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits.

The Giants got a big at-bat from designated hitter Monte Irvin. For the game, Irvin was 1 for 2 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave San Francisco a 2-0 lead.

"Carl did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said San Francisco manager .
