Mets Score Late to Beat Braves, 4-3
|
The excitement level at Citi Field reached a crescendo in the final at-bat.
Freddie Freeman had a good game, but he could not keep the Atlanta Braves from falling, 4-3, to the New York Mets at Citi Field. The Atlanta first baseman was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Now 3-4, the Braves have not played well this season.
The Mets were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 24-year old first baseman Pete Alonso landed a big blow. He turned a 2-1 slider from Craig Kimbrel into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Citi Field denizens into a frenzy and sent the Mets home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"That was a backyard tug-of-war," said Mets manager .
