|
Oakland Athletics left-hander Eddie Plank pitched a good game against the Tampa Bay Rays at O.co Coliseum, leading his team to victory, 5-3. Plank, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Earning his 2nd save for Oakland was Dennis Eckersley.
Jimmie Foxx had a big solo home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Oakland leading 3-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old left-handed pitcher David Price and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Athletics on top, 4-2.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Foxx told the Oakland Citizen.
The win gives the Athletics a record of 8-4.
