In a tight tilt between Chicago and Arizona, pitcher Hippo Vaughn was a key contributor. The left-hander earned accolades for his standout performance in the 2-1 Cubs win. The save was Sean Marshall's, his 3rd. Arizona is 4-5 after the defeat.

Chicago used the timely hitting of Johnny Evers to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cubs on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Vaughn.
