Getting offensive support from Ron Santo, the Chicago Cubs topped the San Francisco Giants, 5-2. Santo went 2 for 2 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Cubs. Chicago reliever Les Lancaster snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Christy Mathewson shouldered the loss. Sean Marshall earned the save for Chicago, his 1st of the year.

Santo had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a full count fastball from Christy Mathewson, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Cubs a 4-2 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Santo.

Santo told a Chicago Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

With the loss, San Francisco falls to 3-3.
