4-2 Triumph Takes New York to 10-5
|
The New York Yankees topped the Seattle Mariners, 4-2, with designated hitter Babe Ruth playing a big role. Ruth threw 5.2 innings allowing 1 run for the Yankees in the win. Mariano Rivera earned save number 6 this season. No one expected much of this team, but the hot start by New York might have some re-evaluating their pre-season predictions. This latest win lifts their record to 10-5.
Lou Gehrig had a big bases-clearing triple for the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Felix Hernandez and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 4-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Ruth.
