The St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates riveted fans at PNC Park.

Stan Musial did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the St. Louis Cardinals from being beaten, 9-8, to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Musial went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Stan Belinda earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0.

Arky Vaughan had a big bases-clearing double for the Pirates in the bottom of the second inning. With Pittsburgh leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Dizzy Dean and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 5-0.

"Time to decompress after a tough win," said Vaughan.

The loss drops St. Louis to 0-3.
