The Washington Nationals inaugurated the 2014 campaign with a disappointing 10-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Nationals Park. Chicago first baseman Anthony Rizzo had a big impact on the outcome. He was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

Ron Santo had a big solo home run for the Cubs in the top of the second inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a changeup from Martin Dihigo and swatted a home run to center. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 2-0.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Santo said after the game.
