AT&T Park was the site of the home opener for the San Francisco Giants. The contest featured a prime matchup between Jose Fernandez of the visiting Miami Marlins and Christy Mathewson of the Giants. The final score was 4-0, the Marlins getting the win. Jose Fernandez turned in the best performance.

Turkey Stearnes had a direct impact on the outcome. Stearnes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning to put Miami up, 1-0.

"Thought I threw pretty well and overall I felt good," said Fernandez.
