Atlanta registered a win at Chase Field by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-4. Pitcher Tom Glavine was one reason why the Braves triumphed. In 7 innings, Glavine surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Gene Garber earned the save for Atlanta, his 1st of the year.
The Braves got a big at-bat from second baseman Marcus Giles. For the game, Giles went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Atlanta a 2-0 lead.
"Tom was able to execute his pitches," said Atlanta manager . "Simple as that."
The loss puts Arizona at 1-2.
