Red Sox Lose Versus Seattle, 7-4
The Seattle Mariners picked up a win at Safeco Field, knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 7-4. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez was a big reason why. Hernandez yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 13-8. Norm Charlton nailed down his 2nd save.

Dan Wilson had a big 2-run home run for the Mariners in the bottom of the second inning. With Seattle leading 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 39-year old right-handed pitcher Bill Gatewood and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Mariners on top, 5-2.

"Nice win for us," said Hernandez. "Now we'll go after the next one."

The second-place Mariners lifted their record to 69-65.
