Randy D Johnson, who leads the AL in strikeouts with 249, was locked in. The left-hander led the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 win against the Boston Red Sox at Safeco Field. The third-place Mariners hiked their record to 68-65.

In the bottom of the first, 30-year old left fielder Jimmie Lyons hit a 2-run home run. The 23rd home run of the season for the Seattle left fielder put the Mariners on top, 2-0.

Johnson called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
