The Texas Rangers defeated the Seattle Mariners by the score of 5-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to catcher Ivan Rodriguez. Rodriguez went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI for the Rangers on the day. Texas reliever Jeff Russell picked up the win, upping his record to 1-8. Jeff Nelson absorbed the loss. Texas got a knockout punch from Newt Joseph. The pinch hitter hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
