The New York Yankees, despite a fine performance by Los Angeles pitcher Frank Tanana, grabbed a 3-2 win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Tanana allowed 2 runs over 6 innings. The defeat makes Los Angeles 65-67.
New York used the timely hitting of Earle Combs to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Yankees on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We'd like to put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the division," said Combs.
