Tigers Make Blue Jays 3-1 Losers
|
Detroit Tigers starter Justin Verlander was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-1. Verlander, now 6-13, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Picking up his 22nd save was 30-year old left-handed pitcher Willie Hernandez.
Detroit used the clutch hitting of Ty Cobb to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Tigers the lead, 3-1. For the game, Cobb had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
Cobb said afterward that he was glad to contribute to the win.
At 60-69, the Tigers are currently 4th in the American League Central Division.
