Tigers Defeated, 3-2, After Toronto Rallies
|
The Toronto Blue Jays sent the home crowd home ecstatic.
Toronto turned a fine outing from starter David Wells into a victory over the Detroit Tigers at Rogers Centre. The final score was 3-2. Tom Henke earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 7-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, Devon White knew he could end it with one good swing of the bat. And he did, hitting a run-scoring single off Detroit pitcher Harry Coveleski.
In postgame remarks, Wells applauded his team's "business-like approach."
At 69-62, the Blue Jays find themselves in second place in the American League Eastern Division.
