Fernandez Helps Blue Jays Beat Rangers, 9-7
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers, 9-7, at Rogers Centre. Tony Fernandez was a standout performer for Toronto. His 4 hits included 2 singles and 2 doubles -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. Jim Clancy earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. At 65-59, the Blue Jays claim second place in the American League Eastern Division.

The Blue Jays got a big hit from left fielder Hurley McNair. Facing Texas pitcher Alexi Ogando in the bottom of the fifth, McNair pounded a 3-run home run to right. His 10th home run of the season put the Blue Jays ahead, 9-5.

McNair told a Toronto Citizen reporter that the win made him feel "invigorated."
