The Toronto Blue Jays met little resistance from the Boston Red Sox, beating them, 11-1, at Rogers Centre. Candy Jim Taylor led the way. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for Toronto. Jimmy Key, the winner, improved to 10-13. He held the Red Sox to 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Their 64-59 record puts the Blue Jays second in the American League Eastern Division.
In the bottom of the 1st, Toronto took the lead on a 2-run single by Roberto Alomar. At the time, the Blue Jays were trailing 1-0, but Alomar's hit with two outs against Boston pitcher Roger Clemens put them in front, 2-1.
"Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug," said Boston manager . "Today we were the bug."
