In 21, Detroit Sinks Baltimore, 3-2
|
The Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles treated fans to some rich drama.
The Detroit Tigers bested the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 3-2, in 21 innings. Harry Heilmann deserved much of the credit. On the day, Heilmann was 5 for 6 with a home run, a double, 3 singles, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times for the Tigers. Detroit, at 51-66, holds down last place in the American League Central Division.
Detroit got a game-changing hit from Tony Phillips. The second baseman blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the 21st inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a winner.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Heilmann. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
