The Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox, 3-2. Boston pitcher and Kansas City, Missouri, native Smoky Joe Wood led the way. Dick Radatz converted his 6th save in 11 tries. The Red Sox go to 61-59, putting them third in the American League Eastern Division.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Red Sox had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the first, when left fielder Carl Yastrzemski hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Red Faber and made the score 3-0, Red Sox. Yastrzemski was 1 for 3 with a walk.

"Smoky Joe did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said Boston manager .
