The Boston Red Sox defeated the Chicago White Sox, 9-7, in part because of second baseman Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia went 1 for 2 with a double, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 times for the Red Sox. Luis Tiant got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. Jonathan Papelbon finished the game for Boston and earned his 25th save.

Mookie Betts, who is tied for 10th in the AL in doubles with 31, aided the Boston cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the center fielder went 1 for 2 with 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"It was a solid team effort," said Betts after the game.
