A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers.
The Rays grabbed a win, 5-3, at Comerica Tigers Park, overcoming a fine effort from Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander. Verlander went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. With the victory, the Rays record stands at 52-64.
Tampa Bay used a timely hit from Ben Zobrist to get the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rays ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Zobrist told a Tampa Bay Daily reporter that he was "very pleased" with the win.
